2020 Stamp Programme

In announcing the USPS 2020 stamp program on 22 October 2019, United States Postal Service Stamp Services Acting Executive Director William Gicker stated, “since 1847, the Postal Service stamp program has celebrated the people, events and cultural milestones unique to the history of the United States. The 2020 stamp subjects continue this rich tradition. These miniature works of art offer something for everyone interested in American history and culture.”

Release dates and locations for many stamps scheduled for release between January and May 2020 were announced by the USPS on 10 December 2020.

Two Priority Mail stamps scheduled for release on 18 January 2020 were announced by the United States Postal Service on 12 December 2020 — Big Bend and Grand Island Ice Caves.

Two additional stamps were announced by the USPS on 30 December 2019 — the Presorted Star stamp (due on 3 February and the Chrysanthemum Global stamp (due 24 April). On 3 April 2020, the USPS announced that the pre-printed USA Flag envelope, originally announced in November 2018, would be released at some point during the year.  At the same time, ten designs were announced to honor Japanese American artist Ruth Asawa. These stamps will be issued on 13 August in San Francisco, California.

The Innovations stamps were announced on 7 July. On 28 July, the USPS announced the designs for the 2020 Holiday stamps with the release dates being revealed on 4 August. First-day events for the remaining U.S. issues in 2020 are expected to take place online only.

Despite the lockdown situation throughout much of the United States during the Spring and Summer of 2020, the scheduled stamps have continued to be released albeit without first day of issue ceremonies.  The stamps (and first day covers) can be ordered online and obtained at some larger post offices throughout the country.
