During a conference on 5 October 2016 at the Universal Postal Union Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, the public postal operator of Morocco (Poste Maroc in French, Barid Al Maghrib in Arabic) and seven fellow operators of Africa announced the launch of a common philatelic sale website: the Hub philatélique africain or Africa Philately Shop in the two languages available at http://www.africaphilatelyshop.post.

A press release was posted by Poste Maroc on his website the same day, explaining the purpose and project around this new tool. Poste Maroc issued a nine dirham stamp for the occasion, with the officials signing first day covers.

The six countries whose postal operators which initially entered references on the Hub were Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, and Morocco. In 2016, it was reported that the list of participants could reach the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo, partners of the initiative.

The press release explained the long-term project: that the philatelic new issue trade can be kept under the continental operators’ control and to “open the prospect to establish an African platform for e-commerce”.

In mid-2020, it was reported on the Joint Stamp Issues website “that Stamperija produced in 2020 (exact date unknown), a stamp almost identical to the 2016 stamps issued at the occasion of the creation of the African philatelic hub. Only difference: it mentions clearly the 4th anniversary and of course cannot be considered as part of this joint issue.”

A later posting on the same page stated, “Nedjmeddine Boudaren (Algeria) informed us that Togo issued the missed joint issues: “African philately hub”, Covid-19 and Family Remittance at the same date of June 16, 2020 (this needs to be confirmed as stamps have not been seen so far).” Elsewhere on the site, it is mentioned that participants in this joint issue include Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Congo, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Togo.
