On 23 October, Åland Post issues a reprint of the stamp featuring Sailing ship Altai. Issued in February 2016 as part of the Sailing ship stamp series, the first edition of this 10-cent stamp has almost sold out. Apart from the mention of the date of issue on the sheet, the reprint from Åland is identical to the original stamp issue.
The edition of the reprint featuring the brig Altai is 70 000. The original issue number 346 as well as the new date of issue 23 October 2020 appear on the new edition of sheets.
The Sailing ship Altai stamp was first issued on 2 February 2016 together with Sailing ship Pehr Brahe, both of which are included in the sailing ship series of 12 stamps issued from 2015 to 2020. The artist behind all stamps in the sailing ship series is skipper and artist Allan Palmer from Åland.
The brig Altai was built on Vårdö in 1859 for a shipping company with many part owners. Altai mostly carried timber in the North Sea and operated with good profit until she was taken out of use in 1876. On the stamp, Altai lies at anchor outside the port of Copenhagen to take onboard provision and buy gear.
