Zaria Forman documents climate change with pastel drawings. She travels to remote regions of the world to collect images and inspiration for her work, which is exhibited worldwide. She flew with NASA on several Operation Ice Bridge missions over both poles. Zaria’s large-scale drawings explore moments of transition, turbulence and tranquility in landscapes at the forefront of climate change, allowing viewers to connect emotionally with places they may never have the chance to visit. By conveying the beauty of vulnerable places, she hopes to inspire viewers to help preserve them.

Coral reefs are so threatened by greenhouse gas emissions, pollution and overfishing that scientists agree that they may cease to function as ecological cradles of marine life by the end of this century. As a ceramic sculptor with a background in coral reef conservation biology, I believe art impacts our emotions and can move us to value the blue planet we live on in ways that scientific data often cannot. We protect what we care about, and we care about what we know and understand. Art can bring the beauty and peril of coral reefs above the surface and into view and can inspire us to protect the ocean.
