The sport’s great contribution is to promote respect and tolerance, especially among young people. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed April 6th the International Day for Sport for Development and Peace. The popularity and positive values ​​promoted confirm the role of the importance of sport in the advancement of society with a major impact on the development of human rights, social and economic progress.
Judo is a martial arts sport for women and men and was founded in 1882 in Japan by Jigoro Kano as a contemporary continuation of Old Japanese martial arts. The contestants are categorized by weight categories, appearing in kimono or judogi, barefoot and girdled with a band whose color indicates belonging to a particular peer group. The goal of the square-shaped fight is to throw the opponent to the back or flank with the use of permitted interventions.
The benefits of juda have been recognized in the field of child and youth development and in some countries this sport is being introduced into educational programs. It enables proper psychophysical development due to its impact on a whole range of traits and abilities. A special feature of judo is that it can be dealt with by all – girls and boys, the elderly, top athletes and recreation, regardless of their abilities and physical constitution.
