three coloured Easter eggs laid in spring grass

Easter is the major Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In addition, Easter is a period of celebrating spring-related folk traditions, only loosely associated with the religious holiday. Coloured and otherwise decorated eggs are given by girls and women to boys and men who symbolically whip them young braided twigs with into health on Easter Monday so that they remain young and fresh for the rest of the year. Easter is a moving holiday, the date changes from year to year. In the Western Christian tradition, Resurrection Sunday falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the equinox.
