The set of stamps covers the postage values used in Gibraltar for postal operations throughout the Christmas period, and they feature popular Christmas carols that many generations have grown to love. The stamps have been designed by local graphics artist Mr Stephen Perera and have been printed on a high quality special easy peel self-adhesive paper to assist postal users during the busy Christmas period.

The word carol comes from the French word carole, meaning circle dance, or song of praise and joy. The singing of carols did not originate with Christianity, but with the pagan practice of celebrating the seasons. There are historical records from as early as 129 AD of songs written specifically for Christmas celebrations. These Christmas songs were primarily written in Latin, and were not called Carols, but hymns.

Happy New Year! Merry Christmas! Jolly Kalyady!

On October 30, 2019 the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus issued 3 postage stamps: “Jolly Kalyady!”, “Merry Christmas!” and “Happy New Year!”.
Artist: Victor Chaichuk. Design: Yauheniya Biadonik. Print process: offset. Colour: multicoloured. Paper: chalk-surfaced, gummed. Perforations: comb 12. Stamps size: 28×35 mm. Sheets composition: 6 (3×2) stamps. Sheets size: 110×100 mm. The technology of thermal stamping by metalized foil of silver colour was used on the stamps and stamps margins. Print quantity: 60.000 stamps each.
Printer: Unitary Enterprise “Bobruisk Integrated Printing House named after A. T. Nepogodin”.
Letter “A” is equal to the tariff of a letter up to 20 gram within Belarus.
Letter “M” is equal to the air-mail tariff of a postcard abroad.
Letter “H” is equal to the surface tariff of a letter up to 20 gram abroad.
A sheetlet was also issued. Sheetlet composition: 6 (2 sets) stamps. Size of the sheetlet: 110×107 mm. Print quantity: 12.000 sheetlets.
A special cancellation on FDC will be carried out at the post office No.1 of Minsk (shop “Philately”,16 Moskovskaya street) on the stamp issuing day.
